The Fulton County Board of Commissioners established its commitment to the arts in 1979 with the creation of the advisory board known as the Fulton County Arts Council followed closely by establishment of the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture (FCAC) in 1981.
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners has worked to support arts and cultural programs throughout Fulton County. In 2016 Fulton County enters the thirty-seventh year of providing and supporting high quality arts programming in Fulton County. Since inception, the Fulton County Commission has invested over $80 million in the nonprofit arts and culture industry; establishing itself as the leading public funder for the arts in the State of Georgia.
The mission of the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture (FCAC) is to enhance the quality of life of all Fulton County citizens through support of the arts. Through the Contracts for Services (CFS) program FCAC strives to strengthen the cultural health of individuals, organizations and communities by awarding funding to non-profit organizations whose arts programming supports the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture's overall mission.
