HARMONY: Atlanta’s International Youth Chorus

Founded by Dr. Elizabeth Kimble as a pilot summer camp program in the heart of downtown Atlanta, HARMONY kicked off its first annual concert series in the fall of 1993. HARMONY is comprised of youths, age 6 to 18, from diverse racial, cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. Music Director since 1996, Joyce Ketchie Carr leads the young chorus by giving them the opportunity to develop teamwork, tolerance, and mutual respect as they strive for musical excellence.

Believing that music is a barrier-breaker and a powerful medium of self-expression, HARMONY sings messages of peace, justice, hope, reconciliation and unity in 35 languages. HARMONY embraces the belief that training culturally diverse children to perform together benefits the quality of life in our communities and in our world.

HARMONY has had the opportunity to sing for distinguished audiences such as Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jimmy Carter at Symphony Hall and Desmond Tutu at a benefit for Africa’s Children’s Fund. They’ve also performed with the National Children’s Choir at Carnegie Hall, at four UNICEF Benefit Galas, and at the Piccolo Spoleto International Music Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.

HARMONY offers scholarships for cost of tuition and music as well as need-based scholarships that are awarded to approximately 10% of its members. They also offer 2 “named” scholarships that are awarded to singers who best demonstrate the values of HARMONY.

Auditions for HARMONY are ongoing. To schedule an audition, please call Joyce Ketchie Carr at 404-705-8066. For more information please visit www.harmonychorus.org .
