Art At Work(AAW) was developed in 1995 by Fulton County Arts Council (FCAC) as a six-week summer program to provide arts education and job training for youth, ages 14 - 16, who were interested in the visual arts. Since AAW's inception, it has evolved into a summer and year-round program that has served hundreds of Fulton County teens referred or not referred by social services agencies or from our collaborator Fulton County Juvenile Court (FCJC). Teens are integrally involved in all aspects of production and marketing while learning valuable work skills.

Over the course of a year, participants receive art instruction, social and employment skills training from professional visual artists, job readiness trainers, and social workers. They are exposed to the business and entrepreneurial aspects of the arts as they exhibit their work locally, and earn an income for creating art. Program participants become Apprentice Artists; producing artwork is their job.

Through ongoing quarterly evaluations that measure immediate, intermediate, and long-term outcomes of the program, Fulton County has developed an innovative way to provide opportunities for youth to develop much needed job skills, lower the number of youth that may be sent or return to the FCJC system on a more serious offense, and assist youth with developing the necessary skills to lead productive lives.

Art At Work is conveniently located at 2857 Main Street in downtown East Point directly in front of the East Point MARTA train station.

Interested in applying? You must be age 14, 15 or 16, a Fulton County resident, and be able to work Mondays through Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from October through May.
